It’s coming — just as I said. $89.99 Tablet for sale now

Not stunning, but functional. This is just an indicator of what is coming in the tablet market this fall. The price on this seven inch tablet is advertised at $89.99, including shipping. ASUS and Google just teamed up to release their Nexus 7 too, for $199, and the reviews are good: http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/28/nexus-7-review/. I feel that there will be a BUNCH of these kind of tablets 3Q2012 to 4Q2012 with the price eventually bouncing down around $30 — like cell phones. The more expensive tablets will have price points at $149 and $249, with maybe a poor performing price point at $399 ($349 would sell more). There may still be one or two expensive tablets at $600, but those will be a special niche market where people have a lot of money and want the status of possessing that brand. Here is another one from Archos — $250 — to compete head to head with the Kindle fire.

Pastiche

When blogging on Goggle Plus or FaceBook, I also pass on links to magazine articles that I considered interesting enough that a wide range of those following my posts may also find interesting. I do not consider this scrapping, rather it is pastiche:  a musical, literary, or artistic work that imitates the style of previous work or is made up of selections from different works. See http://www.pageaday.com.

New Microsoft Tablet is also a PC

I was right! The new Microsoft “Surface” tablet is a PC and /or tablet. It also has a detachable cover that doubles as a keyboard and mouse. The price is to be set to be competitive with commodity tablets. That would be primary or secondary pricing at  $249 amd $149 respectively, with maybe a tertiary price point at $400. Monday June 18 Microsoft Announcement

Rumer is it’s a tablet to be made by Microsoft, like the XBox. http://mashable.com/2012/06/14/microsoft-is-launching-an-ipad-killer-report/

This just in from Mashable:

It’s hard to recall another Microsoft invitation like this one. No graphics, no details, no leaks. It sounds, well, almost Apple-esque in its urgency and stringent requirements and rules:

This is a non-transferrable invitation, however, if you would like to send your local colleague in your place, please submit that name and it will be reviewed. If you would like to bring a photographer please register that person as your additional guest. Please note – still photography and video will be limited.

So what does Microsoft have up its sleeve?

The article http://mashable.com/2012/06/14/microsoft-media-event-june-18/ goes on to speculate. I wonder if Microsoft has read my blog and is releasing a new MS Phone with Win8 that also works as a reasonable PC when docked to keyboard and screen. That would be a massive explosion before the 3Q2012 tablet onslaught. If they did that they might even impact the upcoming Apple release.
