Thunderbird -> Make E-Mail Links Open in Browser

Posted on July 29, 2014August 11, 2014 by John Nash

EVERY time I re-install Linux I run into this problem again: the ThunderBird email client does not open links that I click in the browser. Then I spend hours on the Internet trying to find a fix that actually works.

This time, the fix that worked is from http://askubuntu.com/a/312932:

In Thunderbird 11.0.1, it is simple, yet not intuitive:
  1. Go to Preferences (Menu Edit → Preferences).
  2. Click on the Attachments tab.
  3. In the Content Type and Action section set HTTPS, HTTP, and FTP to Use google-chrome (or other desired browser).

That worked for me after trying numerous things in terminal that did not work.
